------ Voices & Performances ------

In August 2003 I decided to take a turn. Considering the amount of work I put into my creation of voices for the Ex5, I decided to ask a small fee for download. This fee will also encourage me to create more voices and performances for the Ex5.

All work is Copyrighted under Terms and Conditions. Voices that were for download at the Ampfea web site and earlier work, will still be free. You can download them below.

V1.1

This suite collects the Jump Voice and Performance for the EX5. I also added a new Brass Patch which sounds more like on the real OB-Xa: Jump OB-Xb. In Performance mode you can play the Jump voice on the EX and via MIDI channel 2 the strings via an other keyboard.

The 1.1 version adds some modifications to the filter and playing style.

Please add your comments at EX5tech topic or our Guestbook.

Muchos Gracias to Da'Cook for creating the EX.Factory - See the Jump_suite.html file.

Voices
I1-001 (A01) Br:Jump OB-Xa
---------------------------
This is the original Jump patch.
"The Jump sound from Van Halen. It was made with an
OB-Xa. What I really like about the sound is that is bites
right through everything. Crispy filter. And very powerful,
short sound. This version is created for live use. On stage it moves The Crowd ;-) (I play in a band named The Crowd)
There's allot of effects, just what you need on stage to
make an impressive sound. For studio use you might
want to lower the effects."

I1-002 (A02) Br Jump OB-Xb
---------------------------
This is the second Jump patch which is more realistic,
but in my opinion not so great for live use.
Super great for studio stuff ! And it does bite !

I1-003 (A03) Br 1984 OB-X (Bonus patch)
---------------------------
This patch is created by Wiredog in addition of the Jump OB-Xa voice. "1984". Slow "strings" in the top with low resonant swell in the bottom.
Wiredog:"I've modified God'yn's "Jump"patch. I copied his 1&2 elements into 3&4, and zoned up a "split" keyboard between them."

I1-004 (A04) St OB-X Strings (Bonus patch)
---------------------------
These are extracted from the 1984 OB-X patch from Wiredog.

Performances
001 (A01) -- Jump multi
---------------------------
In Performance mode you can play the Jump voice on the EX and via MIDI channel 2 the strings via an other keyboard. Don't forget to push the 'song' button to get all the channels playing !

A new version of the God'yn Grand. The previous version was over equalised. I tried to make a standard version for all different uses. I use this piano live on stage. And that's how you should look at it. A decent stage piano. It has stereo left-right panning along with the keys. This comes better on a stage than a layered version. (lesser chorus effects). I also tried this one out with different classical midi files. A had several versions of the God'yn Grand and perfectioned this one until it sounded right.

fixes:

  • No need for FX with EQ. This lady sounds great without.
  • Low velocity plays shorter now
  • Random stereo high attacks. A real piano has a great stereo due to the harmonics. Unfortunately this is not possible, nor with stereo panning. The attacks simulate a stereo field.
  • Better dynamics. playing 'piano' differs lots from playing 'forte'
  • MW1 controls damper (assign to external damper)

Presenting my GM Deluxe set for the Yamaha Ex5:
Do we need to explain the need for a decent GM soundset? A GM set is always very handy to look up a certain voice very fast. On stage and in a studio. It's a collection of the voices you'll need the most in any kind of music style. It's a shame they're mostly disrespectfully worked out. So I handled them with tons of respect !

These voices are reshaped to be most useful for the Ex5. Since the EX5 isn't a Midi-monster, I find the midi-standard could play a better role. GM Deluxe isn't a traditional GM set. You'll find these voices very much resembling to the original GM set. But with their own charactère. All voices use the original waves from the yamaha GM set as found on www.ex5tech.com .

I also tried to recreate as much as possible the original sounds. So you'll find a Rhodes piano, a Blues Harmonica, Clean/distorted guitars, Orchestral and symphonic strings,... Classic Analog synths such as Yamaha CS, Moog, TB303 Bass, FM Bass, ... The effects and pads add lot's of drama to compositions. Many of the sounds have lots of controllers, so don't forget to twitch them !

Features

  • Great acoustic piano's. The acoustic piano is created after the GodynGrand v2. I also added a realistic honky-tonk piano.

  • Realistic acoustic basses with modulation.

  • Symphonic instruments can be very smooth or can be bright and forté.

  • All voices created with as few as possible elements for better polyphonic use.

  • Different versions of one voice under the controllers such as original/distorted/wahwah/tremolo rhodes, original/blues harmonica, feedback/distorted/phaser guitar, ... (compared with GM2 standard), synth/realistic human voices,...

  • All voices use beautiful effects, but sound great without also f.e. in a mix. Controllers add more effects.

  • Very dynamic voices. For a better realistic play, I programmed lot's of dynamic range in filters and amplifiers. Play them gentle or heavy. Staccato or legato. F.e. the mute guitar will sound shorter when played at low velocity.

  • Realistic voice-play thru controllers (aftertouch, controllers,...) The MW1 is mostly assigned to vibrato. But unlike other GM voices, instruments that don't use a simple vibrato give you the original vibrato timbre they should. Think of a violin, vibraphone, rhodes piano,...

  • All voices shaped after original instruments

  • The complete set fit's 2 floppy disks. And uses 1Mb of sample data.

Please E-mail me your comments/findings regarding the GM Deluxe voices.

God'yn Grand Piano v1

Created 03/07/2002
It's a reworked version of GodijnGrand Piano. I played lots of gigs and home recording for about 3 months and this is the result. (So now you can throw away or ignore my previous GodijnsGrand Pianos )

This piano is very usable. It's my favorite. It has the same feeling and action as a real piano. (Oh well, ya know what I mean, just let me be happy for once ! ;) ) And it makes my EX a more worthier synth. I felt frustrated so long about EX piano's. But now I'm starting to get satisfied. (Oh, how I love bragging about myself ) It has a small pitch decay witch creates a nice warm sound. And it's very dynamic to play with. Some may find it to hard to play, but you'll get the hang of it after a while and learn to appreciate it. If not, you can always adjust the Velocity starting level in the COMMON panel of the patch.

Please feel free to add changes to this patch and post it here. It can only work out for the better and provide a new range of piano's for the EX. Also i may add new versions later, because evolution never stands still, doesn't' it ??!!!

How to Use: Brightness and decay control for more rock style (MW2). Mono or Stereo switch (MW1). Transpose functions on Sc1 and Sc2. (D4 and B3). Where control knobs 5 and 6 add more reverb and delay.

Threads can be posted on EX5tech.

Godijns Pianos

Created 29/12/2001

1. GodijnsGrand

This piano is tested live and in studio. For live play it
has all the features you could wish. Brightness and decay
control for more rock style (MW2). Mono for a clean piano
in the monitors (MW1). Transpose functions on Sc1 and Sc2.
(D4 and B3). For studio play it can be turned into a full
stereo grand piano. (MW1). Where control knobs 5 and 6 add
more reverb and delay.

2. GodsRockPno
Hard attack rock piano. Mono to stereo switch (MW1) and
brightness (MW2). I use this piano when i play heavy rockin
stuff on stage.

3. GodsWideGrnd
Wide stereo grand piano. Same effect as Godijnsgrand in
stereo, but only this is more a mellow version piano.

4. GodsSimplPno
Very handy mono sort piano. Only panned keys. Lower keys
are more rock piano style. For live use and programming.

5. GodsBritePno
Wide stereo piano, with bright sound. Not for live use,
only studio.

Godijns Accordeons

Created 29/12/2001

  • Reed organ
  • Accordion
  • TangoAccordn

Based on Three Accordions from Peter Buchta. I made these voices for my XG-rom set I was working on. Gathering all the good stuff, adapting and placing them into the set are my instructions. They aren't the real thing. Hell, even my D- 50 produced better accordion sounds, and that was 10 years ago ! Let’s face it, EX wasn’t made for this synthesizing this stuff. They ‘forgot’ those rom samples at Yamaha’s :-) But no weeping. I hope these synth voices contribute.
